This is the fourth consecutive week that Tarleton’s football and volleyball programs are nationally-ranked at the same time. Monday, September 24 was the first day in Tarleton’s NCAA history that Tarleton was ranked in each of those sports at the same time. In addition to the national rankings, Tarleton’s men’s and women’s cross country team are each regionally-ranked by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Tarleton Volleyball continues to dominate the Lone Star Conference after pushing its winning streak to 17 with road victories over No. 22 Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman’s last weekend. The TexAnns will hit the road on Wednesday for a crucial road match at Angelo State at 7 p.m. before returning home for the weekend to play host to Eastern New Mexico Friday at 6 p.m. and West Texas A&M Saturday at 12 p.m. The TexAnns moved up two more spots in the AVCA national poll to No. 13 this week.

The TexAnns set a new school record Friday night by defeating Texas A&M-Commerce in four sets on the road to win their 16th consecutive match. Tarleton extended the streak to 17 on Saturday with a five-set win over Texas Woman’s in Denton. Tarleton is 20-2 on the season and 12-0 in league play. With those 20 wins, Tarleton is now 17 wins away from 700 all-time in program history while head coach Mary Schindler is 17 wins away from 300 in her career. Seniors Adrianna Knutson and Hannah McManus are currently in pursuit of career records. Knutson enters the weekend with 1,772 career digs, which has her 75 digs behind She McBrearty for the all-time lead. Meanwhile, McManus enters the weekend with 291 career assisted blocks, which has her 43 behind Marissa Galich for the all-time lead.

In addition to the career records, McManus has also moved into the top 10 list for assisted blocks in a single season (101), passing Galich’s 1997 mark of 99. With six more assisted blocks, McManus can move up to No. 7 on the single-season list passing Amber Strange (2017), Amy Rice (2005), and Galich (1998).

Tarleton Football continued its unbeaten start to the season with another rout, this time against the defending national champions in Commerce. Tarleton defeated the then-No. 7 Lions 47-21 Saturday night to hand Commerce its largest defeat since Dec. 13, 2013. It is the first 6-0 start for the Texans since 2007 and the first time during any stint under head coach Todd Whitten.

Whitten enters this weekend’s game with 62 career wins as the head coach of Tarleton and trails only W.J. Wisdom’s all-time record of 71 victories. Tarleton Football is looking to bring its all-time program record back to an even .500. The Texans currently boast an all-time mark of 478-480-33.

Tarleton Women’s Golf returns to action for the second time this fall as the TexAnns will tee off for two days at the Division II National Preview in Palm Beach, Florida. Tarleton finished second at its home tournament in Glen Rose last month as Junie Khaw earned LSC Golfer of the Week honors after carding a 142 (-2) for the tournament.

In addition to the game action, Tarleton Basketball will be debuting a new take on one of Tarleton’s greatest traditions on Thursday night with Wisdom Madness. Formerly known as Midnight Madness, Wisdom Madness will begin at 7 p.m. in Wisdom Gym. Following performances by the national championship cheer and dance teams, as well as Foul Play, the basketball teams will take the court for the first time in front of the home faithful. The women will take the court first, followed by the men’s team who will have a full 20-minute, game-style scrimmage to showcase the talent for the upcoming season.
