Kade Renfro passed for two touchdowns to Kyle Lindsey and Gavin Rountree, but a tough #4 Waco La Vega defense lived up to its #4 ranking with two interceptions that led to a 32-15 District 5-4A loss for #6 Stephenville.

La Vega was the third top four team the Jackets have matched up against in what might be Stephenville’s toughest-ever schedule before the playoffs.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Jackets capitalized on a fumble recovery, and Renfro found Lindsey for a 21-yard scoring pass and Chance Carrillo’s extra point made it a 7-0 for Stephenville.

The joy was short lived as La Vega exploded for three long touchdowns before halftime that included a 65-yard one-handed touchdown catch, a 93-yard interception return, and an 18-yard run.

Gage Graham provided one of the highlight plays of the night when he returned an extra-point kick for two points.

La Vega’s defense limited the Yellow Jackets to just 201 yards while racking up 444 of their own. The loss drops Stephenville to 4-3 on the season, and all three of those losses have come against teams ranked fourth or better.
