STEPHENVILLE – Stephenville is the City of Champions and, this weekend, the champions will take over the city.

Tarleton will be hosting the final regular season home football game of the season at 2 p.m. on Saturday, as well as the Tip-Off Classic Basketball Tournament and 2018 Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championships in Stephenville this weekend. Over 400 student-athletes and athletic staff from 14 different teams over three different sports will visit Stephenville and Tarleton State University this weekend for an action-packed weekend of college athletics.

On Saturday, Tarleton Football will have a chance to do something that has never been done in the history of the program – win an outright Lone Star Conference Championship. Previous information has been updated after confirmation to old records indicated the 2001 conference title was shared with Texas A&M-Kingsville. In Tarleton’s NCAA history prior to this season, the Texans have three co-conference championships and three divisional championships. Tarleton Football will be at home Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. to host Western New Mexico in the regular season finale.

The Texans stayed unbeaten last weekend with a 59-3 rout of Lincoln (Mo.) at home, in which the Tarleton defense put on a dominant display by holding the Blue Tigers to just 50 yards of total offense. Meanwhile, the Texans’ ground game fell just eight rushing yards shy of the single-game record (406) and had three rushers with over 100 yards and a touchdown – Xavier Turner, Adam Berryman, and Daniel McCants. Turner and Berryman each had three touchdowns. Todd Whitten inched closer to W.J. Wisdom’s all-time record of 71 Tarleton wins as the ninth-year head coach won game No. 65 as the leader of the purple and white.

Tarleton Volleyball, who has already secured its third LSC Championship in program history, will be back home to host the Lone Star Conference Championship Volleyball Tournament Thursday through Saturday. The TexAnns are the top seed and will play Eastern New Mexico in the opening round Thursday night at 7 p.m. The annual LSC postseason awards will be announced Wednesday night.

The TexAnns had their 24-match win streak snapped in the regular season finale and will enter the tournament looking to start anew with an overall record of 27-3 and a 19-1 LSC mark. Tarleton is now 10 wins away from 700 all-time in program history while head coach Mary Schindler is 10 wins away from 300 in her career.

Tarleton men’s and women’s basketball will make their home debut on Friday and Saturday night as a part of the F&M Bank Tip-Off Classic in Wisdom Gym.

The Texans are coming off a 2-0 road trip at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic at St. Joseph’s, Mo., where they defeated Missouri Western and William Jewell. Josh Hawley recorded back-to-back double-doubles and Chris Reisman earned his first career victories as the head coach of the Texans. Tarleton will welcome UC-Colorado Springs on Friday at 7 p.m. and the University of the Southwest Saturday at 7 p.m. to close out the tournament.

The TexAnns will open their season at home against Rogers State on Friday at 5 p.m. and St. Mary’s Saturday at 5 p.m. Tarleton played a pair of home exhibition games last week and won both against Texas Wesleyan and Hardin-Simmons. Tarleton returns four starters from last year’s NCAA playoff team, including WBCA Honorable Mention All-Americans Katie Webster and Mackenzie Hailey.
