Morton named All-State, Lucero and Douglas tabbed for 4A All-Star game

Senior hitter Jayci Morton has been named to the Class 4A All-State Volleyball team by the Texas Girls Coaches Association while junior libero Gabie Lucero has been picked to appear the 4-A All-Star game where her coach Shay Douglas will be an assistant for the opposing team!

“I’m so very excited and proud for both Jayci and Gabie,” Douglas said. “Jayci battled an injury all season long and continued to stay focused and battled through with big numbers. She helped lead her team to the Regional Quarterfinals.”

Morton blocked at 46.3 percent rate while establishing a 34.4 percent kill ratio to go with 260 kills this season.

“Gabie was a solid player all season and I can’t wait to see how much more she grows as a player,” Douglas said. “I’m excited about being able to watch her play among some of the best players in the state.

Lucero notched a service percentage of 96.6 this season and had a team-high 730 digs.

Douglas in her first season at her alma mater led the Honeybees to a 29-18 record winning bi-district and area titles and showed her team what it’s going to take to make the next level, Her first-year accomplishments didn’t go unnoticed by her peers with her selection as assistant coach of the 4A Red team.

“I’m honored I was chosen to be one of the coaches. This will be a first for me and I can’t wait for July to get here!” Douglas said. “It’s always exciting when you get a player selected and then you find out you get to spend that moment with them too.”
