Memorial Services for Chester G. Ball, Jr., age 88, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019. at Morgan Mill United Methodist Church, Highway 281 in Morgan Mill, Texas, with Christy Barto presiding followed by a reception at the Community Center. Inurnment will be private.

Chester was born in Alliance, Ohio, on August 1, 1930, to Chester G. Ball, Sr., and Margaret (Graham) Ball. He graduated from Mount Union College in his hometown and then obtained his law degree at SMU in Dallas. While in law school, he met his beloved Joanne, his wife of sixty-five years.

Chester served in the U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate Corps in Korea.

He began his private law practice in Arlington, Texas. Next to his family, Chester treasured most his practice of law with valued partners, which eventually included his son, Scott. He was admitted to the Supreme Courts of the United States, of Texas, and his native Ohio. In “retirement” he continued practicing in his son’s office in Stephenville.

Chester was the 2001 recipient of the Blackstone Award, the Tarrant County Bar Association’s highest honor, which is presented to the attorney, “Who best exemplifies the highest attributes of the legal profession.” He practiced law until his 85th year of life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and brother. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Shank Ball, of Morgan Mill, Texas; his son, Scott G. Ball and wife, Lisa, of Dallas, Texas; his daughter, Catherine Ball Edwards and husband, Treven, of Bellingham, Washington; and two granddaughters, Madeleine Ball and Elizabeth Edwards.
