It’s a top 25 matchup as Tarleton travels to Commerce

THE GAMES
No. 23 Tarleton men’s basketball will play its third straight LSC road game at the Texans travel to No. 24 Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. It’s the first ranked matchup of the season for the Texans. The Texans will return home to play a non-conference game against Dallas Christian on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 4 p.m.

THE BROADCAST
Each game will have a live radio broadcast presented by the Tarleton Sports Network presented by North Texas Ford Dealers. The Voice of the Texans Byron Anderson will have the call for Tarleton basketball this season. The radio broadcast can be heard on KTRL 90.5 FM in Stephenville and surrounding areas or online at TarletonSports.com/ListenLive.

ABOUT TARLETON:
The Texans are 12-2 overall and 3-1 in the LSC on the season while riding a six-game win streak. The Texans are averaging 78.1 points per game while holding teams to 67.3 points. The Texans shoot 49.9 percent from the floor and 40.9 percent on 3-pointers. Tarleton has three players averaging double figures with Josh Hawley leading all players with 17.3 points. Corinthian Ramsey averages 13.9 points and Randall Broddie puts up 11.4 points a night. Hawley leads the LSC in scoring and rebounds with 10.0 rebounds and has six double-doubles in 14 games.

NABC POLL:
The Texans are ranked No. 23 this week – their first week ranked since they were ranked No. 25 back in February 2017. The Texans went from receiving three votes to open the season to gaining 48 votes in this week’s poll behind a 12-2 start to the season. The Texans have won a season-high six straight games and are also 3-1 in the Lone Star Conference. t’s the 129th week the Texans have been ranked in the NABC poll and is the 13th different season to be ranked. Tarleton is one of three Lone Star Conference teams ranked in the poll, joining West Texas A&M (8) and Thursday’s opponent, Texas A&M-Commerce (24).

ABOUT TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE:
Texas A&M enters the weekend with a 12-2 record and tied for first in the LSC at 4-0. The Lions are 6-0 at home this season. TAMUC averages 83.3 points per game and holds opponents to 70.5 points. The Lions have five players averaging double figures in scoring, led by LSC preseason player of the year, Reggie Reid, who scores 15.4 points per game.

INSIDE THE SERIES: TAMUC
Tarleton and Texas A&M-Commerce are meeting for the 53rd time since the first played in 1990. The Texans lead the all-time series 32-20 and are 11-12 on the road at TAMUC.

ABOUT DALLAS CHRISTIAN:
Dallas Christian enters the weekend 4-9 overall as an NCCAA team. The Crusaders are 1-5 on the road this season. Dallas Christian averages 80.8 points and allows 95.3 points. DCC has five players that average double figures in scoring, led by Chance Houston’s 19 points per game.

INSIDE THE SERIES: DCC
Tarleton and Dallas Christian are meeting for the 11th time since the first played in 2002. The Texans lead the series 10-0 over the Crusaders, with all 10 games played in Stephenville. Tarleton has won all 10 games by 20 or more points. It’s the first meeting between the two teams since 2014.

UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
The Texans will travel to Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M on Jan. 17-19 to wrap up a 5-game LSC road trip.
