Stephenville overcame problems at the free-throw line sinking 7-of-8 in overtime and going on an 8-0 run when it counted most to down Godley 58-52 for a District 7-4A road win Tuesday.
The two teams were tied up at 44-44 after the Jackets didn’t score on their final possession with 7.5 seconds remaining.

What the Jackets hadn’t been able to do over four quarters of play suddenly came to life in overtime. Stephenville was a woeful 6-of-18 at the line before igniting with Skylar Stilwell and Grayson Traweek leading the way.
The duo did much the same in overall scoring with Stilwell notching 19 points and Traweek had 17, but it was Calvin Darby’s play off the bench that got the Jackets rolling in the third quarter. Darby came into the contest to score nine points and grab three defensive rebounds.
“I couldn’t be more proud of how well Calvin played,” coach Bill Brooks said. “He might have been the difference maker for us in this game.”

Darby may have kept the Jackets in the running in during regulation play, but it was Stephenville’s 8-0 run in overtime that kept the Wildcats at bay.
Trailing 48-47, the Jackets made their move with a 14-foot jumper from Kreece Nowak and a Trace Morrison steal and layup. That was followed up by Stilwell and Traweek getting hot at the line and pushing Stephenville out front 55-50 where they then coasted to victory.
The win moves Stephenville to 3-2 in district play, and the Jackets remain in third place in the league standings.
Nowak contributed seven points to Stephenville’s scoring while Kendal Storrs and Morrison had two points each. Mason Castleberry round out the Jacket’s totals with a free throw.
Stephenville plays host to Brownwood Friday night at Gandy Gym with a 7:30 p.m. start.
