The Honeybee softball team got things started exactly the way coach Russ Mayes wanted with an 18-8 win over Comanche at Stephenville’s McCluskey Field Tuesday.

Sky Gaitan picked up the win for Stephenville as she pitched three innings and struck out six batters while allowing five runs. Bianka Garcia pitched two inning of relief.

The game’s first inning hinted of the offensive highlights to come as Stephenville took a 3-2 lead and padded that in the second with four more runs. Leading 8-2, it looked like the Bees would cruise to a win before Comanche rallied with six runs in the fifth inning.

That was before Stephenville batted around and scored 10 runs to run-rule the game.

The Bees slapped 13 total hits in the game with Mallory Gunter leading the way with three hits and driving in three runs. Garcia made the most of two hits also driving in three runs and she had the Bees only extra base hot with a double.

Madison Gilder, Katie McIrvin, Jessica Ebeling and Kaida Tomlinson all had two hits each.
