SCHUTT SPORTS/NFCA DII PLAYER OF THE YEAR TOP-50 WATCH LIST
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its annual Top-50 Watch List for the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Player of the Year Thursday afternoon and Tarleton State University has two players to keep an eye on – Georgia Capell and Tanna Huie. The top 50 list is comprised of returning NFCA All-Americans from last season and a slew of players submitted by head coaches and selected by the NFCA Division II All-America committee. They are the second and third players in Tarleton history to be named to the Top-50 Watch List, joining Katelyn Conlee in 2016.

PRESEASON ALL-AMERICANS
Jordan Withrow and Georgia Capell have been named 2019 Preseason All-Americans by Fastpitch News (FPN). Withrow was named an All-America Second Team pitcher while Capell earned honorable mention honors. Withrow is coming off the best year of her brief Tarleton career as a sophomore in 2018. As a sophomore, Withrow was an honorable mention All-American by FPN and the Lone Star Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year. She also earned all-conference and all-region recognition and was named the LSC Academic Player of the Year. Last spring, she became the first Tarleton pitcher in program history with over 200 strikeouts in a single season (252). Capell made quite the impression as she became the first freshman in program history to be named an All-American. She earned third-team honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). In her debut season, Capell was named the South Central Region and Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year as well as all-conference and all-region.

WITHROW TABBED PRESEASON PITCHER OF THE YEAR
Jordan Withrow was named the LSC Preseason Pitcher of the Year after a sophomore campaign where she was the LSC Pitcher of the Year, an NFCA All-Region Second Team selection and FastpitchNews.com Honorable Mention All-American. Withrow went 26-6 in the circle with 221.1 innings of work and 252 strikeouts, becoming the first player in program history to strikeout 200 in a single season.

MARK’S MILESTONE
With a win over No. 20 Angelo State last Friday night, Mark Cumpian became the second-fastest coach in Tarleton State University’s senior college history to reach 100 career wins. It took Cumpian 138 games to win 100, which is second only to men’s basketball coach Lonn Reisman (133). Cumpian enters this weekend with 101 career victories.

CHASING THE HOME RUN RECORD
Georgia Capell has established herself as one of the elite power hitters in the country over her young career. The sophomore has already moved into sole possession of fifth place on the Tarleton home run list with 26 career long balls. Her next homer will tie her with Brittnee Rice (27) for fourth all-time.

CHASING THE QUEEN OF Ks
Jordan Withrow has moved into third place in Tarleton history in total strikeouts, becoming the third player in school history to strikeout over 400 batters in a career. She goes into the weekend with 440 career punchouts and is five strikeouts away from tying Randi Fentress for the second-most all-time.

LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton took two of three against No. 20 Angelo State in Stephenville last weekend. Tarleton opened things up with a 6-2 win in the series opener. Angelo answered with a 9-8 win in the second game, but Tarleton blasted the Rambelles behind an 11-run first inning to take the rubber game last Saturday. Georgia Capell earned her first career LSC Hitter of the Week award following the series. The Midlothian native led the Tarleton offense with a .667 batting average, six runs scored, three home runs, and eight RBI. Capell recorded nine official at bats, but made the most of them with six base hits and racking up 15 total bases.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Tarleton and Texas Woman’s have met 85 times since in the inaugural meeting 1997 and the TexAnns own a 48-37 lead in the all-time series. Tarleton is 23-18 all-time against the Pioneers in Denton and have won four straight in the series after winning all four of last year’s meetings.

UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
Tarleton will have a quick turnaround next week for a home doubleheader Monday against McPherson in Stephenville and then will head to Weatherford, Oklahoma for a doubleheader against Southwestern Oklahoma, which was originally scheduled for this week but delayed due to weather.
