The Bulldogs answered back with one in the first and that 1-1 score carried into the fourth when Tarleton opened the floodgates.

Karli Herron led off the inning with a single and, three batters later, Lexi Grimaldo sparked a two-out rally with an RBI single. Morgan Ling added another one with a RBI double before Capell had the game’s biggest hit – a three-run home run to right center to take a 6-1 edge.

Southwestern Oklahoma trimmed the lead to four with one in their half of the fourth, but the teams traded goose eggs over the final three innings.

Capell led the offense with a 2-3 day with a run scored and three RBI while Herron also enjoyed a two-hit performance. Tanna Huie, Kadyn Kirkpatrick, Grimaldo, and Ling added one hit each to round out the offense.

Jordan Withrow earned her eighth win of the season with six innings of work, over which she allowed two runs – one earned – on four hits and six walks while striking out six. Karlie Milburn threw the game’s final inning without allowing a run.

Game 2: Tarleton 15, Southwestern Oklahoma 7 (6)

Tarleton scored in every inning, including a six spot in the fourth, to erase a first-inning deficit and blast the Bulldogs in the final game of the twin bill.

Crumpley got the scoring started again in the first with a RBI single, but Southwestern Oklahoma answered right back with a four spot in their half of the inning.

Tarleton’s comeback effort started right away as the TexAnns chipped back with a two-RBI single from Tanna Huie in the second and tied the game in the third on a RBI double from Jessica Lee to plate Morgan Ling.

The Bulldogs would retake the lead with one in the third to lead 5-4, but Tarleton had another answer with a game-changing, six-run fourth inning.

After Tarleton loaded the bases, Amanda Conner drew an RBI walk and then Morgan Ling drove in two with a two-run single. They added three more on an RBI hit by pitch from Capell and a two-run error by the Bulldogs to put Tarleton on top 10-5.

The teams traded two runs each in the fifth. Tarleton’s came on a two-run home run from Amanda Conner. Then Tarleton tacked on the final three in the sixth on an RBI sacrifice fly from Crumpley and RBI singles from Capell and Conner to polish off the 15-run performance.

Capell and Conner combined for six RBI while Capell (2), Huie (3), Crumpley (2), Herron (2), Conner (2), and Ling (2) all had multi-hit performances in the two through seven spots in the lineup. Grimaldo and Lee added one hit each.

Tristan Bridges drew the start and went the first inning before Rachel Williams came on in relief and threw the final five innings. She earned the win and improved to 3-0 on the season.

Tarleton will return to action Monday with a road doubleheader in Laredo against Texas A&M International.
