LAREDO – Tarleton swept Monday’s road doubleheader against Texas A&M International to run their winning streak to six in a row.

Game 1: Tarleton 5, Texas A&M International 1

Tarleton won its fifth straight game by taking the opening game of Monday’s doubleheader against Texas A&M International 5-1 in Laredo.

Tarleton got the scoring started in the first when Tanna Huie singled with two outs and came around to score after two passed balls and a single from Destiny Crumpley.

That 1-0 score would hold up through most of the game but Tarleton added some breathing room with two in the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles from Amanda Conner and Morgan Ling to extend the lead out to 3-0. The Dustdevils got one back in the sixth, but Tarleton put the game out of reach in the seventh when Conner and Ling struck again with back-to-back RBI at bats for a 5-1 Tarleton edge.

Meanwhile, Jordan Withrow polished off her eighth complete game and her ninth win of the season. In seven innings of work, Withrow allowed three hits and one unearned run while striking out eight. The victory is the 46th of Withrow’s Tarleton career, which ties her for the fourth-most all-time with A.J. Bristow.

Karli Herron was the catalyst for the Tarleton offense. The senior went 3-3 at the dish with two runs scored while Conner (2-4) and Ling (1-3) combined for three hits and four RBI while Huie and Crumpley (2) rounded out the offense for Tarleton with three more base hits. Tarleton combined for nine hits in the game.

Game 2: Tarleton 3, Texas A&M International 1

Home runs came in support of the second complete-game victory in the circle for freshman Rachel Williams as Tarleton took care of Texas A&M International 3-1 in the second game to complete the sweep.

Karli Herron continued her torrid day at the dish as she goes deep in her second at bat of the afternoon to put Tarleton on the board 1-0 in the fourth inning. The home run was the fifth consecutive hit of the afternoon for Herron, who went 3-3 in game one and started game two with a 2-2 showing. She finished the game 2-4 with a run and a RBI to lead the offense.

Georgia Capell connected for her 29th career home run in the ensuing half inning to extend the lead out to 2-1.

After the Dustdevils scored one in the fifth to cut the lead in half, Lexi Grimaldo got that run back in the sixth by capitalizing on a Dustdevil error with a RBI double down the left field line to put Tarleton up 3-1. That would be the final run of the afternoon for either team.

Tanna Huie joined Herron with two hits in the game to lead the offense while Capell, Elizabeth Svienty, Destiny Crumpley, and Grimaldo had one hit each to round out the offense.

Meanwhile, Rachel Williams was turning in a career-best pitching performance.

The freshman right-hander tossed a career-high 7.0 innings for her second complete-game win in the last week. Her first career complete-game win came in a 5.0 inning performance against McPherson last Monday. Williams allowed one run on three hits and struck out three. She did not walk a single batter in the game.

Tarleton will return to Lone Star Conference play this weekend when the TexAnns host MSU Texas in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
