STEPHENVILLE – Jordan Withrow and Tristan Bridges spun back-to-back shutouts while the offense supplied plenty of run support in Tarleton’s doubleheader sweep of MSU Texas Friday night.

Tarleton will go for the series sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. with a Saturday afternoon single game.

Game 1: Tarleton 9, MSU Texas 0 (5)

Destiny Crumpley got the offense rolling with a three-run home run in the first inning and Tarleton never looked back as Jordan Withrow shut out the Mustangs in a 9-0 victory in five innings.

After the Crumpley home run put Tarleton on top 3-0 in the first, Georgia Capell and Tanna Huie went back-to-back in the second inning with two of the most opposite kinds of homers the game has to offer. Capell ripped a hard line drive just over the left field wall with authority and then Huie followed up with a mile-high fly ball that left the yard for a 6-0 Tarleton lead.

Tarleton put up another three spot in the fourth when Amanda Conner plated Huie with a sacrifice fly and then Lexi Grimaldo coaxed a bases-loaded walk to bring in Conner’s pinch-runner, Gracie King. A wild pitch during the ensuing at bat allowed Karli Herron to score the final run of the night.

Huie paced the TexAnn offense with two of the team’s five hits while Capell, Crumpley and Morgan Ling had one each.

Meanwhile, Jordan Withrow was dealing in the circle.

Withrow earned her 10th win of the season with a five-hit shutout performance while holding the Mustangs to three hits and two walks. She struck out eight.

Game 2: Tarleton 5, MSU Texas 0

Tristan Bridges would follow up the game-one shutout with one of her own as the freshman left-hander tossed a seven-inning, complete-game victory in a 5-0 win over MSU Texas.

Tarleton got on the board first with a sacrifice fly from Karli Herron to bring home Georgia Capell for a 1-0 Tarleton lead. That lead would carry into the third inning.

Destiny Crumpley and Amanda Conner supplied the power in the third inning as Tarleton pulled away with a four spot to lead 5-0. Crumpley ripped a double down the left field line to bring home Capell and, two batters later, Conner went yard to left field for a three-run job that put Tarleton up 5-0.

Bridges shut the Mustangs down the rest of the way and capped off her three-hit shutout with a groundball to short for the final out of the night. Bridges struck out four and allowed two walks on the night.
