Jean Mayfield, our beloved wife and MamMaw, passed on from this life to the next on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at the Hico Nursing Home. She was 82 years and 8 months of age. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eva Raiwater and father, Jesse Rainwater, one daughter, DeAun Cummings, and one daughter-in-law, Marjorie Mayfield. She is survived by her husband of 63 years & 6 months, Donald Mayfield, two daughters, Donna Ferguson, Debra Needham and husband Hal Needham, one son, Damon Mayfield and wife, Jessica Mayfield, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

She was a longtime member of the Hico Church of Christ.

Our MamMaw loved people and always enjoyed working in the public. As many of you know, she and TawTaw owned Mayfield’s Grocery here in Hico for 31 years. MamMaw was a favorite at the checkout stand and many customers would only go to her. After they sold the store, people would often tell them it just wasn’t the same anymore.

MamMaw loved to travel, too. She especially loved to get on a bus with lots of other people and go to Branson, Missouri! She and TawTaw made several trips together—and, also, she and Deb traveled to Branson together. Deb treasures each and every one of those trips with her mom!
She and TawTaw always taught all of us to love God first and to love and respect all people. All of us children are so thankful for the heritage that MamMaw and TawTaw have given us.
