Stephenville Medical and Surgical Clinic is hosting their annual community health and safety fair on Saturday. Participants will be able to receive numerous free health screenings including getting their height and weight measured, blood sugar tested, blood pressure, vision and hearing all checked and they can even get a skin screening to test for skin cancer.

The fair has grown quite a bit this year and organizers are so excited to welcome the community to this fun event.

“It’s been something we’ve done for about 10 years or so and we’re so glad to be able to continue to host this year,” said Megan Lutrick, with SMSC, said Thursday. “We’ve got more than 50 vendors coming this year with everything from our regular health screenings like blood pressure and vision to cool giveaways and door prizes from all 50 vendors and we will be giving away a Chromebook from Allergy Services of America.”

Also returning this year is the highly anticipated Stephenville School Supplies giveaway. This will be the fourth year backpacks full of school supplies will be given away at the health fair and it is a big draw organizers have said. The organization who provides the supplies (Stephenville School Supplies) is a separate organization from SMSC but the two have worked together to bless local families for several years.

Something new this year will be live entertainment. Lutrick said the local famous Red Hat Steppers will be on scene performing from visitors as well as TNT Taekwondo Self Defense will give an exciting demonstration.

This is the biggest event of the year put on by the employees of Stephenville Medical and Surgical Clinic and Lutrick said they are looking forward to seeing not only the students and parents getting ready for a new year, but also anyone else from the community is welcome to come out and participate.

“One of the reasons we host the fair each year and work so hard to keep it free is to be a service to a community,” Lutrick said. “SMSC is a part of this community – our employees live here and have kids in school here, too – getting to host the fair is our way of giving back to our friends and neighbors and other community members. We invited everyone to come out to see us, get some fun freebies, get some school supplies and their screenings to help get ready for the school year.”

Henderson Jr. High School is located at 2798 W. Frey Street in Stephenville and the fair, which will be held in the cafetorium and the surrounding classrooms, will be open from 9 a.m. until noon.
