STEPHENVILLE – Alexa Hoy, a guard transfer from the University of Texas – El Paso, is the final piece of the 2019 Tarleton women’s basketball class.
“Alexa is a player that is going to add a great deal of versatility to our team. She has the mind and skills to play all three guard spots on the floor. She has the ability to score the ball at all three levels as well,” head coach Misty Wilson said. “She is a tremendous shooter that puts pressure on defenses, thus opening driving lanes for her to create as well.”
Hoy, a 5-9 guard, competed in the first 19 contests at UTEP before missing the final games of the season due to injury. Over the first five conference games, Hoy led the team in scoring (11.8 ppg), assists (3 apg), and playing time (37 mpg). She ranked fifth overall on the team in scoring for the season (6.3 ppg). Hoy started six games for the Miners.
“She had a short but effective career at UTEP before she got injured and had to sit out towards the end of the season. In our conversations with Alexa it was easy to see that our program goals, priorities, etc. complement each other very well,” Wilson added.
Prior to UTEP, Hoy played one season at Hill College, earning the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year Award. She also was named to the All-Conference and All-Region first-team lists. Hoy hit double figure scoring in 24 of 28 contests at Hill and was the third-leading scorer in the region with 16 points per game.
Hoy attended Rockwall Heath High School in Rockwall, Texas. There, she earned first-team All-District 12-5A recognition as a both a junior and senior. She was also named District Freshman of the Year.
“I believe Alex will thrive here and be able to finish out the last two years of her college basketball career in the way she desires. It is a good feeling to be able to close out the recruiting year with a player of Alexa’s caliber,” Wilson said.
Hoy completes Coach Wilson’s 2019 recruiting class, which also includes Jasmine Bailey, Callie Boyles, Erin Brumley, Madison Cawley, Kaitlyn Guillory, Maddie Mitschke, and Jayci Morton.
