STEPHENVILLE – Lauren Kersey was an offensive force for the Texans during their trip to the elite Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver last week and her efforts were enough to garner the league’s Offensive Player of the Week award.

Kersey led then-No. 9 Tarleton with 58 kills in four matches in Colorado where the Texans went 2-2 with wins over host Metro State and No. 12 Central Missouri. She posted double-digit kills in the first three matches of the tournament with 17 against No. 15 Southwest Minnesota State, 19 against Metro State, and 16 against No. 12 Central Missouri.

Kersey also hit a team-leading .339 at the net and had 3.22 kills per set.

This is the second straight week that Tarleton earned a player of the week award as Kersey joins Sofia Tonga (defense) and Kayla Brannon (setter) with honors over the first two weeks. This is Kersey’s first career weekly honor from the LSC.

Tarleton will return home this weekend to open Lone Star Conference play against the Saints – St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s – on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. for Family Weekend at Tarleton State University. The Texans are ranked No. 11 in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
