Tarleton Men Finish Third, Women Seventh at Texas Tech Open

LUBBOCK – The nationally ranked Tarleton cross-country teams competed at the Texas Tech Open hosted by Texas Tech University in Lubbock on Saturday morning. 

The No. 7 men’s team placed third with 101 points, while the No. 10 women finish seventh with 174 points.

Michael Simcho led the way for the Texans, finishing in 10th with a time of 26:51.8. Quenten Lasseter and Nicholas Mosqueda also placed in the top-15, with times of 27:06.2 (13th place) and 27:19.3 (15th place), respectively. Completing the men’s team was Dominick Vastlik in 22nd place (27:46.8), Klay Howard in 41st place (29:10.6), and Devonte Torns in 57th place (31.10.2).

Freshman Kevin Baez grabbed the top spot with a time of 25:58.9. Quenten Lasseter (26:17.4), Michael Simcho (26.29.0), Nicholas Mosqueda (26.33.7), and Dominick Vastlik (26:35.7) finished 2nd-5th, respectively. Completing the men’s team was Devonte Torns, who placed 20th with a time of 28:49.7.

Imani Williams was the top finisher for the Tarleton women, placing 20th with a time of 19:51.6. Jenna Brazeal finished just behind Williams in 21st place at 19:52.6. Haley Dennard and Taylor Richards also placed in the top-50, with times of 20:44.8 (30th place) and 21:30.3 (49th), respectively. 

Rounding out the women’s team was Johnnie Wilkinson in 54th place (21:39.3), Kaleigh Ellis in 57th place (21:52.9), and Emily Kirbo in 58th place (21.54.8).

The men’s team completed an 8,000-meter course while the women ran a 5,000-meter course.

Next up, the Texans will head to San Angelo, TX to compete at the Angelo State Blue/Gold Classic on Tuesday, October 15th. This will be the last meet for Tarleton before they turn their attention to the Lone Star Conference Championships on October 26th.
