Tarleton Men Win ASU Blue/Gold Classic, Women Finish Second

SAN ANGELO – The Tarleton cross-country teams competed at the Angelo State Blue/Gold Classic, hosted by Angelo State University in San Angelo on Tuesday evening. 

The No. 10 men’s team scored 17 points to claim the top spot, 47 points ahead of the second place finisher host Angelo State. The women placed second with 39 points.

Freshman Kevin Baez led the way for the Texans, finishing in third with a time of 26:15.5. Michael Simcho and Nicholas Mosqueda came in just behind Baez at 26:27.2 (4th place) and 26:40.5 (5th), respectively. Quenten Lasseter, Kyle Doty, and Klay Howard also placed in the top-10, with times of 27:12.6 (7th place), 27:26.5 (8th), and 28:01.9 (10th), respectively. 

Rounding out the men’s team was Mark Ybarra in 20th place (29:28.1), Gerardo Cipres in 22nd place (29:49.1), and Juan Espinal in 23rd place (30:13.0).

Imani Williams was the top finisher for the Tarleton women, placing 4th with a time of 23:37.9. Jenna Brazeal, Meagan Riley and Taylor Richards also placed in the top-10, with times of 24:34.6 (7th place), 25:03.4 (8th) and 25:04.3 (9th), respectively.

Rounding out the women’s team was Haley Dennard in 11th place (25:12.7), Kaleigh Ellis in 13th place (25:30.5), and Dusty Soles in 14th place (26.05.1).

The men’s team completed an 8,000-meter course, while the women ran a 6,000-meter course.

The Texans turn their attention to the Lone Star Conference Championships on October 26th in Silver City, New Mexico. Both teams finished second overall in last year’s championship.
