Walter James Newmyer, 84, of Granbury, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. Funeral Services will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2016 Acton Hwy, Granbury Texas, 76049, with Mitch Elrod officiating. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

Walt was born on October 19, 1935 to Mabel and Clyde Newmyer Sr. He attended Union College in Lincoln Nebraska and went on to finish his master’s degree at Andrews University in Michigan. After graduating he married his late wife Shirley and together, they had one daughter. Walt was a principal/teacher for 36 years in Adventist Private Schools. After the death of his wife, Shirley, Walt married his seventh-grade sweetheart, Gwen Kohoutek. After retiring, Walt and his wife, Gwen moved to Granbury where he began his 18-year career as a Substitute Teacher for Granbury ISD. While substitute teaching the students gave him the nickname “Yo-yo Man”. He was known at Granbury ISD for his amazing Yo-yo tricks, which he would perform at the end of each class.

Walt is survived by his wife Gwen Newmyer; daughters, Alice Deapen and husband Doran, Missy Lillie and husband Leon; grandsons, Jordan, James, John and wife Haley, Jake, Mik; granddaughters, Michelle, Taylor and husband Bill, and Krystin; great grandsons, Logan, Zane, Jaxon, and Liam; great granddaughters, Jayden, Madison, Teagan, and Ava; brother, George Newmyer; sister, Harriet Hinton and husband Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his late wife Shirley Newmyer; son, Todd Gaynor; brother, Clyde Newmyer; sisters, Loretta Loignon and Marjorie Camp.
