Women Finish Fifth, Men Sixth at Lone Star Conference Championships

SILVER CITY, NM – The Tarleton cross country teams wrapped up their regular season at the Lone Star Conference Championships in Silver City, New Mexico on Saturday morning.

The women scored 160 points to claim the fifth spot, while the men placed sixth with 179 points. The men’s team completed an 8,000-meter course, while the women ran a 6,000-meter course.

“Really proud of how both teams competed,” Coach Pat Ponder said. “The altitude was definitely a factor. It was tough for all sea-level schools competing.”

Imani Williams led the way for the Texans, placing 4th with a time of 22:56.26. Williams has led the way for the Texans in every meet this season. Jenna Brazeal placed 16th with a time of 23:44.63. Haley Dennard and Taylor Richards also placed in the top-50, with times of 24:44.5 (38th place) and 25:09.59 (48th), respectively.

Rounding out the women’s team was Meagan Riley in 56th place (25:18.62), Johnnie Wilkinson in 65th place (25:39.73), and Kaleigh Ellis in 86th place (26:20.89). Williams, Brazeal, and Wilkinson had their best 6K times of the season, while Dennard recorded a career-high time.

Nicholas Mosqueda was the top finisher for the Tarleton men, placing ninth with a time of 26:00.4. Dominick Vastlik, Michael Simcho, and Klay Howard also finished in the top-50, with times of 26:58.5 (30th place), 27:20.8 (43rd), and 27:26.0 (45th), respectively. 

Rounding out the men’s team was Kevin Baez in 53rd place (27:39.8), Kyle Doty in 55th place (27:43.7), and Quenten Lasseter in 61st place (27:52.2). Mosqueda and Howard recorded their best times of the season.

Williams and Mosqueda were named to the LSC All-Conference team with their top-15 finishes. 

The Texans turn their attention to the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in Canyon, Texas on November 9th.
