STEPHENVILLE — Twelve students graduating this fall from the art/digital media studies program at Tarleton State University will showcase their work in senior capstone exhibits Nov. 4-Dec. 6 at the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Gallery in Stephenville.
Seven exhibitions will rotate in the gallery over the four-week show time, giving the artists an opportunity to mount a professional display of creative work and research in the area they intend to focus after graduation.
“This group represents the variety and breadth of our art and digital media programs at Tarleton,” said senior advisor and art professor Chris Ireland. “Each week there will be new and interesting forms of work. Our students understand the level of intensity that must go into their craft in order to produce work that reaches a wide audience.”
The first show, from Nov. 4-6, is a solo exhibition by James Calaluca, an art education major whose multimedia work explores the backstories of his quirky character designs.
The second exhibition runs from Nov. 7-11, featuring Sarah Darby and Haley Ivey.
Sarah’s graphic design work focuses on company branding, while Haley’s photographic research is based off a study of crime in small towns.
The third exhibit runs from Nov. 12-14 and highlights the efforts Madison Morrow and Julie Steen. Madison will display grids of abstract paintings while Julie’s work depicts abstract variations of Texas nature.
From Nov. 15-19, McKenzie Tucker exhibits her paintings and prints that comment on mental health issues as well as femininity. The work of Jakoby Boyd, semi-abstract paintings and landscapes, and Eric Farnan’s 3D game environments will be up Nov. 20-22. Rebecca Ross presents her cyanotype prints investigating her family from Nov. 25-29, and Amanda Yowell’s photo/printmaking projects run Dec. 2-6.
In addition to the gallery exhibitions, two digital media studies seniors will screen film projects at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Tarleton Planetarium. Dan Adame will present a comedy/drama series pilot episode, and Kelsey Brown premiers her short film entitled Dead Men Adventures.
