DURANT, Okla. – Tarleton wasted no time in sweeping Southeastern Oklahoma Tuesday night as the Texans landed kills at a .330 hit percentage and held the Savage Storm to mild breeze with an .037 mark.

The match started out tight as the Texans held a 6-5 lead over the opening 11 points, but that would be as close as things would be the rest of the way. Lauren Kersey landed a kill shot to spark four straight points and a 13-3 Tarleton to run to give Tarleton a 19-8 edge in the set.

After Southeastern scored three of the next four to crack double digits, Tarleton polished off the opening set with five unanswered points – including the set-winner from Kersey.

It took until the 17th point of the second set for Tarleton to pull away when Tatyana Tuialii-Umi pounded down a kill shot to spark a 6-0 run, which ultimately stretch out to an 8-1 surge to extend a 9-7 Tarleton lead into a 17-8 advantage.

Tarleton pushed things out to set-point at 24-12 before Southeastern scored four straight to delay the inevitable, but Amber Strange had enough of that and ended things with a kill at 25-16.

The final set saw the Savage Storm take an early 5-3 lead but it wouldn’t last long as Kayla Brannon dumped a point into the middle of the Southeastern defense to start a run of six unanswered points for Tarleton to take a 9-5 lead.

After Southeastern fought back to retake the lead 15-13, an attack error and an Adriana Darthuy ace started another 6-0 run for Tarleton to take a 19-15 lead. That would be the last lead change of the night as the Texans ended the set on a 6-5 run to win 25-20.

Strange and Kersey led the team with nine kills each. Kersey’s team-leading nine kills came on a .643 hitting percentage and went alongside a team-high five blocks for the match.

The newly-named LSC Setter of the Week, Brannon, went back to work with 29 more assists while Darthuy led the way with 14 digs.

Tarleton will host Texas A&M International Friday at 6 p.m. to begin their final home stand of the season.
