Texans Sweep Lubbock Christian in Final Regular Season Match

LUBBOCK – The Tarleton Volleyball team swept Lubbock Christian on the road for their final match of the regular season. The Texans move to 20-10 overall with a 12-6 mark in Lone Star Conference play.

This is the 10th 20-win season under head coach Mary Schindler and sixth consecutive.

The opening set was a tight one through the opening 38 points but Tatyana Tuialii-Umi broke a 19-19 tie and started a 6-2 Tarleton run to take the opening set 25-21. Tarleton’s dominance ran into the second set as the Texans opened on a 12-5 run and ended on a 7-3 run to cruise to a 2-0 match lead with a 25-12 win.

LCU clawed back and held a lead as late as 20-19, but Lauren Kersey landed a kill shot to tie the set at 20-20. The Kersey kill started a set-clinching 6-2 Tarleton run to complete the sweep.

Kersey led the match with 13 kills and five blocks. Tatyana Tuialii-Umi added 10 kills, while Amber Strange added nine of her own. Kayla Brannon dished out a team-high 36 assists while Adriana Darthuy (14) and Michaela Rodriguez (16) combined for 30 digs on the afternoon.

Tarleton will now turn their attention to the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament. The complete postseason field will be announced by the Lone Star Conference on Sunday.
