On Tuesday, December 31, 2019, Ruby Alice Edwards, beloved matriarch and friend, passed away at the age of 85.
Ruby was born on May 27, 1934 in Menard, Texas to John Henry and Eva Mae Overstreet. She married Don (Donnie) Edwards on November 12, 1956, and the couple raised two sons, Greg and Joe John. The couple followed Don’s coaching profession all over Texas and even into New Mexico, eventually retiring to Dublin in 1994. After 42 years of marriage, Don passed away in 1999. Ruby was remarried in 2004 to Mark Anthony, until his death in 2014.
Ruby had a passion for people. Moving often as a child and then as a coach’s wife, she learned to make friends quickly and took a genuine interest in every soul she met. She was an uncommonly attentive listener, and the joy of catching up with a friend or grandchild was always evident in her smile. Ruby also enjoyed traveling, watching football or action movies, and attending Josh Turner concerts. Though acquainted with grief—she was widowed twice and experienced the untimely loss of her youngest son in 2016—Ruby was always rejoicing in the Lord. Her faith sustained her and overflowed joyfully into the lives of others, and she was an active member of Cottonwood Church for over 25 years. Her final days were full of laughter and spent in the company of her family.
Ruby was preceded in death by her father, John Henry; her mother, Eva Mae; her first husband, Don; her second husband, Mark; and her son, Joe John. She is survived by her brother, Morris; her son, Greg; her daughters-in-law, Melanie and Juli; her grandchildren, Scott, Lana, Alexandra, John-Marc, Mariah, and Tessa; their spouses and her great grandchildren, Riley, Reese, Ryker, Ian, Ainsley, Owen, Emory, Brooklyn, Liam, and Finnley.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Cottonwood Church, 273 Co Rd 527 in Dublin, at 10:00 AM.
Monday the burial will proceed at 11am at the Johnson Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, Texas.
