Dublin man killed in crash on US 377

ERATH COUNTY — A Dublin man is dead following a head-on collision on US Highway 377 north of Stephenville Saturday.

According to DPS Sgt. Rick Hunter, first responders were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident just after noon on Saturday, February 1. The first units on scene reported on vehicle was on its top and the other was on fire. Incoming units reported seeing black smoke as they left Stephenville headed north.

Upon arrival, county officials called for backup and the Justice of the Peace as well as Careflight. DPS Troopers were dispatched to aid with the crash scene and to investigate the crash.

According to the DPS report, the accident, which occured on US 377 near Timber Creek Road in Erath County, was caused when a 2007 Chrysler 300 crossed the center of the roadway and struck a 2016 Dodge Journey.

The report states, “preliminary investigation indicated the Chrysler was traveling east when for an undetermined reason, it crossed the center of the roadway and struck the Dodge head-on. The Chrysler caught fire after the collision. The Dodge left the roadway and rolled onto its top before coming to a rest.”

DPS Troopers advised the driver of the Chrysler, 26-year-old Kenneth Pierson, III, of Dublin, was pronounced dead at the scene by an Erath County JP. DPS has notified his family.

Rafaela Rodriguez, 55 of Arlington, was driving the Dodge and was taken by air ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. A passenger in the Dodge, Rosa Portillo, 50 of Odessa, was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville via EMS with unknown injuries.

Texas DPS is still investigating this accident.
