STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Athletics Hall of Famer and former men’s basketball All-American Jeffrey ‘Jazzy’ McFadden passed away Wednesday in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Jeff was an outstanding man and tremendous basketball player who made a positive impact on the lives of many people,” Tarleton Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and McFadden’s former coach Lonn Reisman said. “Jeff was part of my first recruiting class when I arrived to Tarleton in 1988 and was one of the most gifted players I ever had the privilege to coach.

“Our basketball family at Tarleton will always cherish the great memories we have of Jeff on and off the basketball court. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to the McFadden family.”

McFadden was a two-year letter winner for the Texan basketball team from 1988-90. In his two seasons with the Texans, McFadden helped guide the team to a 44-16 record and two TIAA championships. He led the Texans in shooting percentage, points per game, and rebounds in each of his two seasons at Tarleton.

“Today I was devastated to hear that my former player & Tarleton Sports Hall of Fame Member Jeffrey McFadden passed away. Jeff was kind, humble and loved Tarleton. Please keep Jeff’s family and friends in your prayers. Heaven gained a great basketball player & person today.”

At the time of his graduation, McFadden held six school records, with one of those records still intact with his 275 field goals made in a season in 1989-90. McFadden was a two-time All-TIAA selection, a District VIII Player of the Year and a NAIA second team All-American selection during his career. McFadden scored a career-high 45 points against Texas College back in 1990, which ranks third in a single game in school history. His 669 points in 1989-90 rank second all time in a single season. McFadden was a CBA draftee following his senior season with the Texans.
