STEPHENVILLE – Despite their only three losses of the year coming against – now – three nationally-ranked opponents, Tarleton Softball slipped three spots in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll to No. 24.
Tarleton opened the year ranked No. 21 in the nation and has defeated previously-ranked No. 1 Augustana (S.D.) on their way to an 11-3 start this year. The Texans have now been ranked in nine consecutive NFCA polls dating back to April 3, 2019, including last year’s final and this year’s preseason rankings.
This is also the 30th week in program history that Tarleton has received national recognition in the NFCA poll.
The Lone Star Conference remains one of the elite conferences represented in the national poll. Newcomer UT Tyler (10-0) leads the conference ranked at No. 4 while Angelo State (9) joined the Patriots in going from unranked into the top 10, despite also having three losses on the season (13-3). Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M-Commerce also suffered significant drops but remain in the poll at No. 15 and 21, respectively.
Tarleton will head to Lubbock Christian this weekend for a three-game round robin against host LCU on Friday night and a doubleheader with West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico on Saturday.
