STEPHENVILLE — An exhibition featuring work of Tarleton State University Artist-in-Residence Layla Luna begins Thursday, March 5, in the gallery of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center in Stephenville.

The exhibition, titled “The Jane Series,” runs through March 27 and is highlighted by a reception March 23.

Luna says “The Jane Series” is a body of work inspired by time spent with female family members.

“Jane is a common name in my small family. I share it as a middle name with my fellow mud-pie-making cousin, maternal grandmother and mother,” the artist said. “It was the first name of my paternal grandmother. It is a compact name that I associate with simplicity and kindness – much like the uncomplicated, confident actions of two children playing. Other fond female names title each painting as an homage to the heroines and authors of my favorite childhood books.”

Luna was born in Fort Worth and earned her BFA in painting from Arizona State University and an MFA in painting from TCU. She studied at Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand, where she obtained a postgraduate diploma in fine art.
