Tarleton Golf tied for third after first round of St. Edward’s Invitational

AUSTIN – Tarleton Women’s Golf is tied for third after shooting a 300 (+20) in the opening round of the St. Edward’s Invitational at the Onion Creek Country Club.

In their first round of the spring season, the Texans sit 10 strokes back from West Texas A&M, who’s in first with a 290 (+10). The Texans are tied with Central Oklahoma and tournament host St. Edward’s. Arkansas Tech is five strokes ahead in second with a 295 (+15). There are 15 teams in the tournament with nine participants coming from the Lone Star Conference.

As a team, the Texans totaled 43 pars and 12 birdies on the Par 70 course.

Junie Khaw is tied for fourth with a 72 (+2) to lead the Texans individually. Khaw posted 10 pars and three birdies in the round. The junior carded a 37 on the front nine and 35 on the back nine. Khaw’s 10 pars and three birdies tied for the team lead on the day.

Sofia Rodriguez is a stroke behind Khaw and tied for seventh with a first-round score of 73 (+3). Rodriguez posted five pars and a birdie on the front nine and four pars with two birdies on the back nine. Rodriguez is one of three Texans to sink three birdies in the round.

Casey Leatherman recorded a 75 (+5) and is tied for 15th on the individual leaderboard. Leatherman joined Khaw with 10 pars in the round for the team lead and matched Khaw and Rodriguez with a team-high three birdies on the day.

Sophie Caldon shot an 80 (+10) and is tied for 47th while Breanna Smith carded an 81 (+11) to tie for 53rd. Caldon posted seven pars and two birdies while Smith registered seven pars and one birdie on the round.

Tarleton will tee off in the final round in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
