STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton couldn’t overcome an early deficit and fell in the series finale to Oklahoma Christian 8-5.

The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the top of the third before Tarleton got on the board with a solo home run from Dean Frew. Tarleton added two more in the fourth on an RBI single from Frew and a bases-loaded walk from Mesa to cut the deficit in half at 6-3.

The 6-3 game carried into the seventh but Tarleton couldn’t inch any closer as the teams traded two more runs each over the last three innings. Tarleton’s final two runs came on a Blake Burns home run and a Jordan Parker sacrifice fly.

Parker, Frew and Cody Vannoy all had two-hit performances while Tyler Fowler, London Green, Corey Young and Burns had one hit each.

Sid Payan, Ty Jones, Jacob Mattox, Jon Law and Michael Pilato combined for the nine innings of work on the mound. Mattox struck out six in 2.2 innings of work. Pilato worked a scoreless ninth.

The Texans will head to Lawton, Oklahoma next weekend for a four-game series at Cameron beginning on Friday.
