SILVER CITY, N.M. – It was a record-breaking afternoon for Jordan Withrow and Georgia Capell as the All-American tandem led the No. 23 Texans past Western New Mexico in a sweep.

Withrow set the school record for career pitching wins and Capell set the all-time mark for home runs in game two.

Game 1: No. 23 Tarleton 21, Western New Mexico 5
Tarleton gave Jordan Withrow several games worth of run support to deliver the senior right-hander a career milestone in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader at Western New Mexico. Withrow earned her 68th career pitching victory, which makes her the all-time wins leader at Tarleton.

Withrow threw the first four innings of the game, allowing one run on two hits while striking out seven. She improved to 9-3 on the season and won her 68th game as a Texan, which passes her former teammate Haley Freyman for the most in program history. It’s the second major program mark Withrow has set in her career. She is also Tarleton’s all-time strikeout leader.

The run support started early as Shelby Carter got Tarleton the board with a two-run homer in the second.

The third inning was the big one as the Texans put up a 10-spot. Four of the first five Texans in the inning singled, including RBI base hits from Carter and Morgan Medford to extend the lead out to 4-0. After a couple of free passes extended the lead out to five, Jessica Lee plated the sixth run of the game on a fielder’s choice.

Tarleton continued to pour it on with two away as Hallie Saintignan drove in one with an RBI single before Georgia Capell and Destiny Crumpley hit back-to-back home runs to cap off the double-digit scoring frame. Capell’s long ball was a grand slam that tied her atop the all-time home run list with Arianna Rodriguez.

Tarleton followed up the 10-run inning with a nine-run fourth, which was started with a two-run blast from Miranda Pruitt. Tarleton later had three consecutive RBI singles from Capell, Crumpley and Morgan Ling before an RBI double from Carter and a three-run two-bagger from Kristen Zuehl to open the flood gates.

Every Tarleton starter recorded an RBI in the game with Capell (5), Carter (4), Zuehl (3) and Pruitt (3) accounting for 15 combined runs driven in. Capell and Carter each had three-hit performances while Saintignan, Crumpley, Ling, Medford, and Pruitt had multi-hit performances with two each. Madison Goin, Karley Horton, Zuehl and Lee had one hit each.

Game 2: No. 23 Tarleton 7, Western New Mexico 2
In the second game of the doubleheader, Georgia Capell wasted no time in breaking a Tarleton record of her own as the junior went yard in her first at bat to become the school’s all-time home run leader and lead the Texans to a sweep.

Capell’s first-inning long ball passed Arianna Rodriguez (41) for the most home runs in Tarleton history. It was the 42nd career home run for Capell.

After Western tied things up with one of their own, the 1-1 game carried into the fourth inning before Kristen Zuehl untied it with an RBI double to left center and Miranda Pruitt followed up with her fourth home run of the weekend – a two-run blast to extend the lead out to 4-1.

Tarleton tacked on two more in the fifth on a Morgan Ling sacrifice fly and a Shelby Carter RBI double. Carter added another RBI in the seventh to stretch the lead out to 7-1. WNMU added one in the seventh to bring the game to its final score.

Withrow fired all seven innings to earn her 10th win of the season. She struck out nine in the game.

Carter and Pruitt paced the offense with two hits each while Capell, Crumpley, Ling, Medford and Zuehl had one hit each.

Tarleton will make its long-awaited home debut Wednesday against Midwestern State at 4 p.m. in Stephenville.
