STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State University nursing instructor Ashley Davis-Fantauzzi, MSN, RN-BC, PCCN, has been accepted to the distinguished Edmond J. Safra Visiting Nurse Faculty Program at the Parkinson’s Foundation.
The prestigious 50-hour accredited “train the trainer” Nurse Faculty Program improves Parkinson’s Disease nursing care by training faculty leaders across the U.S. to educate nursing students. The rigorous course includes didactics, clinical time with patients, participation in a PD support group and the opportunity to develop an independent project.
A Tarleton alum, Davis-Fantauzzi earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2012 and her master’s in 2015.
The Parkinson’s Foundation has hosted the program since 2014 as part of its commitment to training health care professionals.
As one of nearly 40 accepted faculty in 2020, Davis-Fantauzzi will join an elite group of more than 300 alumni, Parkinson’s Foundation Nurse Scholars, who have completed the intensive training over the last 11 years.
Parkinson’s Foundation Nurse Scholars educate an estimated 24,000 nursing students annually on Parkinson’s Disease. With the number of people living with Parkinson’s globally expected to double by 2040 to nearly 13 million, teaching nursing students in the classroom is one of the most effective ways to prepare them for treating people with Parkinson’s when they graduate.
