Texan Golf plays 36 holes on Monday, finishes fourth at CSUSM Fujikura Invitational

VISTA, California – Tarleton women’s golf played all 36 holes on the opening day of the Cal State San Marcos Fujikura Invitational and finished in fourth place.

Due to projected rain in southern California on Tuesday, CSUSM tournament officials and coaches opted to play two rounds on Monday to complete the two-round tournament.

The Texans shot a 313-310—623 (+47) at the Shadowridge Golf Club, which is a Par 72, 5,951-yard course. Tournament host CSUSM won the tournament with a 578 (+2).

As a team, the Texans shot +12 on Par 3s and +5 on Par 5s. They totaled 93 pars and had 15 birdies on the day.

Junie Khaw led the Texans with another top-10 finish, placing ninth individually with a score of 150 (+6). Khaw carded a 75 (+3) in both rounds and led the Texans with five birdies and added 21 pars. It’s the fourth top-10 finish of the season for Khaw, who has also placed in the top 20 in all six tournaments this season.

Sofia Rodriguez posted a top-20 finish, tying for 18th place with a score of 77-78—155 (+11). Rodriguez had the third-most pars of all individuals with 23 and added a pair of birdies to her scorecards. Rodriguez has also placed in the top 20 in all six tournaments this season for the Texans.

Casey Leatherman tied for 27th with a score of 158 (+14). The senior had rounds of 80 and 78 on the day. Leatherman recorded 19 pars and two birdies, which both came on the front nine of round two where she shot 2-over on the front half.

Sophie Caldon tied for 39th with a 160 (+16) and Breanna Smith placed 69th with a 171 (+27). Caldon posted 16 pars and three birdies while Smith added 14 pars and also three birdies.

Tarleton will compete in the Lion Invitational in Trophy Club at the Trophy Club Country Club on March 23-24.
