STEPHENVILLE – Despite a shortened senior season, Alicia Barbaroux’s impact on the Tarleton Women’s Tennis program did not go unnoticed as the Texans top competitor was named the South Central Region Senior Player of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tuesday.

“I couldn’t be prouder of Alicia. This is a great honor for an incredible student-athlete,” said head coach Elianne Miron. “She worked so hard during her four-year career and deserves this award. Although her senior year was cut short, her run to the semifinals of the regional tournament last fall and her impressive start to the spring proved that she was one of the best senior players in our region.”

Barbaroux was on her way to yet another impressive season when the sports year ended abruptly on March 12. The senior from France had just led Tarleton to a road upset win over No. 18 Florida Southern and Barbaroux earned points in the No. 1 doubles and singles flights of the match. She was 5-4 on the season with two wins against nationally-ranked opponents.

She finished her career with an all-time singles record of 41-22, 12-4 LSC and a doubles mark of 40-27, 8-7 LSC. She was a two-time All-LSC selection and was the 2018 LSC Player of the Year as a sophomore after going 14-3 on the year and a perfect 6-0 in league action as the team’s No. 1 player. She has also been recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete.

Barbaroux is currently finishing her degree as an international business major at Tarleton and is expected to graduate this year.

Tarleton was 5-5 on the season under first-year head coach Elianne Miron. The Texans will move to NCAA Division I and the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) next season.
