June 26, 1926 ~ May 20, 2020 (age 93)

James “Hoss”, passed peacefully at home on May 20, 2020. His funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M.,Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the Lacy Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M., Saturday, May 23, 2020.

 James B. Butler was born to Otis Oliver Butler and Sarah Cordelia (Hurley) Butler on June 26, 1926 in Desdemona, Texas.

 The family moved to Lingleville, Texas when Hoss was 5 years old. Hoss graduated from Lingleville High School in 1943. He joined the United States Air Force after High School.

 When he came home from the service, he went to work at General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas. He later went to telegraph school and went to work for the Rock Island Railroad. He spent 38 ½ years working for Rock Island and Burlington Northern Railroad.

 Hoss married Helen Myers on April 16, 1952. Together they had 2 daughters, Darla Ann and Susan Elaine. Hoss and Helen liked to travel in their motorhome and went to almost every state. They loved music and went to Branson, Missouri to the music shows and to the Grand Old Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.

 Hoss loved working in his yard and in his garden. He loved fishing and went to Roaring Springs State Park every fall, fly fishing. His dream was to have a log house in the woods when he retired. He bought 5 wooded acres in Granbury, Texas and had his home built and moved there in 1989 and got to live in it 21 ½ years.

 He is survived by his wife, Helen; granddaughter, Kristina Caywood, and husband, James; sister-in-law, May McLenan; and many loving nieces and nephews.

 Hoss was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, his 2 daughters, Darla and Susan, and granddaughter, Delaine Marie Dowdy.
