STEPHENVILLE – The final member of Tarleton’s inaugural NCAA Division I women’s basketball recruiting class has officially signed on with the purple and white – Birdville High School sensation, Iyana Dorsey.

Dorsey comes to Tarleton after a phenomenal senior season at BHS where she was among the top scoring threats in the entire DFW region with 772 points and 24.9 points per game – both Birdville HS single-season records. She also set school season marks for made field goals (225), made three-point field goals (77), made free throws (245), free throw percentage (.850) and steals (159).

She also holds Birdville’s single game school record for points in a game (44), which she scored against Azle High School on December 20 last year. She also set the program standard for field goals (14), three-point field goals (6) and steals (12) in a single game.

“We’re thrilled to add a player of Iyana’s caliber to our program,” said head coach Misty Wilson. “She’s a talented scorer that can put points on the board in a hurry. She was one of the most prolific scorers in the entire DFW area last season and will provide us some versatility as a ball-handler and combo guard.

“She is an incredibly hard worker that possesses the strength and athleticism to help impact our team right away,” Wilson continued. “It will be exciting to watch her game develop over the next four years. She’s also a tremendous student with a great personality, which will fit in nicely with our team.”

In addition to her extraordinary senior season, Dorsey’s career at Birdville was one for the ages.

She was a three-time TABC All-Region and two-time TABC All-State selection. She was the District 7-5A MVP in back-to-back seasons and the district’s Defensive Player of the Year last year, in addition to being a three-time academic all-district selection.

Dorsey becomes the sixth member of Tarleton’s inaugural women’s basketball Division I signing class and the third this spring in addition to Malaya Kendrick and Emily Cavey. Kendrick and Cavey join early signees Adreanna Waddle, Emily Cunningham and Blythe Williams who announced their commitments last December.
