Are you ready for some spring cleaning and need to get rid of some stuff, but don’t know what to do with it? If you would like to get rid of some items and would be willing to donate them to the Erath County Law Enforcement Explorers Post 918, we’d be more than happy to take them off your hands!

The Explorers are hosting a countywide community garage sale to be held on Saturday, August 15, located at the Erath County Sheriff’s Office parking lot, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

All proceeds from the sale will go directly into the Erath County Law Enforcement Explorers POST 918 general account. These funds will assist the Explorer program with training equipment, study materials, uniforms, and gear. They also will help the kids with being able to go on educational trips state wide to the different branches of law enforcement, such as the DPS headquarters in Austin, the Game Warden training facility in Hamilton, and the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco. This money will give the Explorers the opportunity to travel to various competitions in which they compete against other Explorer Posts in “call for service” scenarios such as burglaries in progress, active shooter responses, misdemeanor and felony traffic stops, crime scene investigations, crisis negotiations and any other type of calls that would involve law enforcement responses.

During the last year since the program first kicked off, we have been able to attend only one competition, which was in Trophy Club, Texas. We placed 2nd in felony stops and 3rd in Crisis Negotiation. That day there were 8 teams competing in 6 different events and for our first competition ever, placing in those categories was awesome! They really worked hard and did a great job!

Community service is a vital component of the Explorer program.  We are always looking for ways to serve the citizens of Erath County. We have assisted in working the Cowboy Capital Karate Tournament and the state finals karate tournament in Abilene,Texas. We have assisted the local Boy Scout troop with the Halloween Haunted Forest event at Camp Tonkawa by directing parking and escorting attendees from the parking lot to the campsite. We’ve participated with the Paluxy River Children’s Advocacy Center in placing blue ribbons up at the town’s square and the city hall in Dublin for Child Abuse Awareness month. We did a community car wash, thanks to US Gravel for giving us the space to do it. The kids of Explorers POST 918 really take pride in their service to the community. We would love to continue to serve our community in whatever capacity that is needed.  So anytime you or your organization is planning an event and need assistance, please do not hesitate to call us at the sheriff’s office and ask for either myself (Deputy Daily) or Deputy Yoder to make arrangements. Our services are free, but we will gladly take any donations given to the POST.

Speaking of donations, I would like to take this time to thank those that already have donated to the program since the beginning. The POST wishes to thank Twisted J Boutique, the Evening Lions Club, Texas Association of Nippon Kenpo Karate, and the Stephenville Kiwanis Club for their generous donations in order to get the program started on the right track! The program started with just four kids last year and is now twelve students strong! We strive to continue to grow into one of the best law enforcement explorer programs in the state, and hope to one day be able to attend a National competition which takes place every other year. POST 918 can not accomplish this without your help, so if you have items that you would like to donate for the community garage sale, it would be greatly appreciated and we would be forever grateful! You may contact Deputy Scott Daily’s cell (254)-431-9307 or Deputy Thomas Yoder at the sheriff’s office, at 254-965-3338 to make arrangements of either drop offs or pick ups of items. You can also email us at erathcountypost918@gmail.com.
