Flash Staff Report

September 4, 2020 — Earlier this week rumors of another round of layoffs at TechnipFMC in Stephenville began circulating. On Thursday morning, those rumors were proven true.

Chris Moore, VP of Manufacturing at TechnipFMC in Stephenville said he can confirm FMC “had a reduction in our workforce at our manufacturing facility in Stephenville today (Sept. 3).”

This decision has been taken due to the unprecedented market situation caused by COVID-19, declining demand for oil and gas and the resulting reduced levels of workload,” Moore said. “TechnipFMC continues to take decisive actions to control costs, and to adapt to this new context. Any decisions are taken with the utmost sensitivity in terms of how they impact our employees, customers and communities.”

While it is not known exactly how many folks were laid off in this round, it is estimated that between 50 and 100 people were let go.
