STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State University’s Homecoming week has moved to the spring to coincide with the pandemic-altered football season. But that doesn’t mean traditional fall activities have been forgotten.

Texan Spirit Week, a reimagining of the yearly campus celebration, begins Sunday, Oct. 11, with the 7 p.m. Lighting of the Smokestack and announcement of the spring 2021 Homecoming Court. The king and queen will be crowned during spring Homecoming activities.

Events continue through Wednesday, Oct. 14, culminating with President James and First Lady Kindall Hurley hosting Midnight S’mores at the Trogdon House on the Stephenville campus.

The yearly Silver Bugle Hunt, a university-wide scavenger hunt that dates to the 1940s, is Monday, followed Tuesday by the Launching of the Ducks and the Purple Out Picnic in Stephenville.

Events also are planned for Tarleton’s Fort Worth and Waco locations.

The Yell Contest, Snake Dance Beating of the Drum, Yell Bingo, Purple Pancakes and the J. Dixon White Homecoming Golf Tournament will take place in the spring, with dates to be determined.
