STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State University has kicked off a six-month strategic planning process, encouraging students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and community members to take an active role in charting a 10-year course for the institution.

“Developing a future-focused strategic plan for the next decade is exciting and critically important,” said Tarleton President James Hurley. “We are all experiencing challenges we have never had before, but that’s exactly why now is the time to invest our time, energy and focus toward envisioning and shaping our future.”

Dr. Hurley has named Dr. Credence Baker, Dean of Tarleton’s College of Graduate Studies, to lead an inclusive and transparent process, culminating in a strategy that aligns with Tarleton’s affirmation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges in spring 2021.

CampusWorks Inc., a higher education consulting firm based in Bradenton, Fla., will facilitate discussions and gather ideas and recommendations from campus and community workshops, forums, focus groups and surveys to inform the plan’s measurable goals and action steps.

“The voices and critical insights of the entire Tarleton family are central to the success of our efforts,” Dr. Baker said. “We need everyone’s participation to envision how we become the university the future demands.”

A website, www.tarleton.edu/ourfuture, has been created to share next moves and a timeline, introduce members of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee, and showcase how the Tarleton family can get involved. The final strategic plan document will be ready for dissemination by March.

Tarleton, founding member of The Texas A&M University System, provides a student-focused, value-driven education marked by academic innovation and a dedication to transform today’s scholars into tomorrow’s leaders. It offers degree programs to more than 14,000 students at Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Midlothian, RELLIS Academic Alliance in Bryan, and online, emphasizing real-world learning experiences that address societal needs while maintaining its core values of tradition, integrity, civility, excellence, leadership and service.
