Juana “Juanita” Velasco Avila was born in Zacatecas, Mexico on June 24, 1940 to Jesus and Carmen (Ledesma) Velasco. She married Raul Avila on April 29, 1959.

Juanita was a devout Catholic and was always praying for her loved one’s wellbeing. She was a generous, loving woman with a kind heart who would do anything to help anyone she could. She had a sweet voice and loved to sing. She loved all children and was always so proud of her large family. Juanita was known for her amazing home cooking and baked goods. She was also quite the gardener and had an exceptional green thumb. She gave the best warm hugs and kisses that made everything better. Juanita will be greatly missed by those that knew her best.

Juanita is survived by her husband, Raul Avila; six children, Jose Luis Avila, and wife, Maria, Thomas Avila, and wife, Irma, Ruben Avila, Martha Avila, and husband, Ramiro Aguilar, Luis Humberto Avila, and wife, Rosalinda, and Lidia Avila; seventeen grandchildren, Isabel Chand, and husband, Zachary, Crystal Dumbeck, and husband Connor, Alma Garcia, and husband, Mario, Raul Avila, and wife, Cynthia, Lalo Avila, Andrea Avila, Aaron Avila, Brandon Jurado, Jasmine Avila, Brandie Jurado, Edwin Avila, Michael Avila, Zaid Avila, Mylynn Avila, Jaylin Avila, and Yandel Avila; eleven great grandchildren, Ava, Yzekiel, Elijah, Ellyana, and Ira Chand, Korie, and Harper Dumbeck, Roman Moctezuma, Emma Garcia, Elliott, and Mya Avila; sister, Amelia Velasco. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Nicholas Velasco; and sister, Eloisa Velasco.
