The Stephenville High School Cross Country teams competed in the District Meet Wednesday in Lampasas.  The Girls and Boys varsity teams both finished second in a very competitive meet and qualified for Regionals, said head coach Beth Phelps.  The Regional Meet will be held in Lubbock on Tuesday, November 10.

Varsity Girls took second place in the meet:

  • Amiah Rodriguez 5th place
  • Seren Fowler 6th place
  • Marisa Otero 9th place
  • Kenna Cashon 17th place
  • Yesenia Loyola 18th place
  • Ansley Meza 19th place
  • Lila Richards 22nd place

“We knew all year that the girls race was going to be competitive,” Coach Phelps said. “Especially since the UIL changed guidelines this year due to COVID and only the top 2 teams qualified for regionals, instead of the top 3 teams. In our District, you have Gatesville who qualified for State last year, and Lampasas coming in running the same times we have been running all year. We’ve run against Lampasas several times this year and it has been back and forth; so we knew that it was going to come down to a few points and it did.”

Gatesville 41 points, Stephenville 55 points, and Lampasas 58 points.

Varsity Boys also placed second:

Mitchell Pack 4th place
Eduardo Juarez 6th place
Cullin Rumsey 8th place
Daniel Osornio 10th place
Miguel Moreno 12th place
Noah Hansen 16th place
Alex Loyola 20th place

“I was very pleased with the boys and how they finished, it’s a great group that works extremely hard,” said Phelps.
