Donnie Lynn Nowlin, 69, of De Leon, passed away Friday, November 13, 2020.

Donnie was born on July 23, 1951, in Dublin, Texas, to Frank C. & Maxine (Barber) Nowlin. He married D’Arla Scott on July 21, 1972 in De Leon First United Methodist Church and together they raised three children.

Donnie had a life-long passion for serving others. This passion led him to become a funeral director and establish Nowlin Funeral Home in De Leon, TX. He proudly served as the owner and manager of Nowlin Funeral Home until he retired in 2009. After his retirement as he bravely battled MS, he continued to serve others in any way he could — from baking cakes and desserts for members of the community to making crafts for the Methodist Church’s Fall Festival. He will be remembered for his kindness, caring, and compassion that he showed everyone in their time of need. He will also be remembered for his quick-wit and sense of humor, which he displayed through his final days.

Donnie has resided in De Leon most of his life and was a member of the De Leon First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, D’Arla of De Leon; children, Nigel Joseph Nowlin of De Leon, Emily Joyce Nowlin of Las Vegas, and Trevor Max Nowlin of Weatherford; grandchildren, Ashlynn Nowlin, Raeli Nowlin, and Layne Spencer; sister, Sandra Files of Gorman; and brother, Larry Nowlin of De Leon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank C Nowlin, and Maxine Barber Nowlin; sister, Sharon Nowlin Hart; twin brother, Ronnie Nowlin; and by his special Great Uncle and Aunt, Lon and Mama Jewel Smith.

Due to the pandemic, the immediate family had a private service for Donnie. Once it is safe to gather again, there will be a memorial service in his honor for any and all who wish to attend.
