Stephenville’s District 6-4A opener was a see-saw battle of runs, and the Yellowjackets found themselves on the wrong end of a 65-60 score against No. 25 Lampasas.
The Badgers just cracked the TABC Class 4A poll Monday as their 14-1 record (now 15-1) attracted voters’ attention, and Lampasas also cracked Stephenville’s second-half offense.
Leading 52-48 heading into the final eight minutes, Stephenville couldn’t find the mark late in the game, and untimely turnovers down the stretch allowed the Badgers to outscore the Jackets 17-8.

Still, it was a game that the Jackets could have won as Stephenville led 59-57 with 4:28 remaining before going cold on offense and Lampasas taking advantage of the miscues with an 8-1 run.
The game ended much how it began as the Badgers started with a 5-0 run in the first quarter only to see the Jackets catch fire behind the three-point shooting of Grayson Traweek, who popped two long distance shots and had eight points in the frame
Post Aiden Espinoza also had a hot-hand with seven points inside and Kyle Morton and Kallen Kimbrough each notched baskets as Stephenville went on top 19-17.
The Jackets continued their offensive trend in the second quarter as Brady Morton hit the first of his two-three pointers, and Kelvin Ong, Coy Eakin, and Tanner McCailey all got in the scoring to give Stephenville a slim 37-35 half time lead.
Traweek led the Jackets’ scorers with 16 points while Espinoza had 10, Morton 9, Kimbrough 9, Eakin 8, Styron 4, Ong 2 and McCailey 2.
The loss drops Stephenville to 12-5 on the year and 0-1 in District 6-4A play. The Jackets will look to get into the win column Friday in Gatesville.
