No. 6 Stephenville controls its destiny after beating Gatesville 73-55, and No. 5 Glen Rose suffered a shocking 46-45 road loss to last-place Lampasas Tuesday.

Stephenville (19-2, 6-1) hosts Brownwood (9-13, 2-5) for its final game of the season, and it will be Senior Night at Gandy Gym with District 6-4A title on the line for the Honeybees.

All indications were that Stephenville and Glen Rose would battle for the league championship after the two teams split home-and-home wins. The Honeybees topped the Lady Tigers 40-34, and Glen Rose returned the favor 39-33.

Now a championship/seeding game is out of the window if the Honeybees continue their hot trend that is coming at the right time of the season.

Stephenville handed Brownwood a 47-20 road-trip loss on January 19 and needs to avoid any letdowns.

Stephenville 73 Gatesville 55

Alee McClendon and Mya Wesley scored 22 each, and the #6 Honeybees poured in a season-high 73 points as Stephenville went on the road and knocked off Gatesville Tuesday night, 73-55.

The pace was fast in the first quarter as the Bees bolted out to a 20-9 lead, only to see the Lady Hornets cut it to 23-17 after one. The Bees led 28-22 before closing out the half on a 12-0 run to take a 40-22 lead into the break. Stephenville’s offense would continue to score in the 3rd, taking the frame 15-10 before Gatesville outscored the Bees 23-18 in the 4th to make the final 73-55.

Behind McClendon’s and Wesley’s 22, Landri Withers had 16, Jade Wilson 5, Trysten Monk, Zoe Birdwell, and Mya Wilson each with 2, and Kennedy Coffee and Jaylee Matthews rounded out the scoring with 1 each.
