CONROE – Tarleton Softball dropped both games of their final day at the Blizzard Challenge at the Scrapyards against Lamar (4-1) and No. 11 Oklahoma State (12-4).
Game 1: Lamar 4, Tarleton 1
Tarleton had its chances but couldn’t push runs across and dropped Sunday’s game against Lamar 4-1.
The Cardinals scored two in the first and two in the fifth to build a 4-0 lead while the Texans could only muster a run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI fielder’s choice from Destiney Crumpley. Tarleton had six hits on the day and stranded five base runners.
Shelby Carter led the team with a two-hit performance while Hallie Saintignan, Katy Schaefer, Georgia Capell and Jordan Dickerson rounded out the offense with one-hit each. Tristan Bridges took the tough-luck loss in the circle with seven innings of work and seven strikeouts.
Game 2: No. 11 Oklahoma State 12, Tarleton 4 (5)
Tarleton squared off with its first nationally-ranked Division I foe in the tournament finale and suffered a 12-4 loss to No. 11 Oklahoma State.
The Cowgirls put up a four-run first, one in the second and five in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead but the Texans were resilient by scoring four runs of their own in the top of the fifth.
The Texans plated two runs on a deep, two-RBI sacrifice fly from Capell to crack the run column and then Schaefer blasted away for her first home run as a Texan – a two-run shot to left to plate Morgan Medford and herself.
OSU scored two more in the fifth before ending the game.
Capell and Schaefer each had one hit and two RBI on the afternoon while Crumpley boasted two hits. Medford, Dickerson, Kristen Zuehl and Alexis Hoang had one hit each to round out the Tarleton offensive performance.
Tarleton will close out its south Texas road trip with a twin bill at the University of Houston tomorrow at 11 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. against No. 3 Oklahoma and the UH Cougars.
