STEPHENVILLE – After leading Tarleton Volleyball to a perfect 4-0 record this past week, Lauren Kersey racked up two offensive awards for her performance on the court.

Kersey was named the Sports Imports AVCA National Player of the Week after guiding the Texans to wins over TCU, Prairie View A&M and two road victories over Chicago State. It’s the fourth time a Texan Volleyball player received the award from the AVCA, and the first as a Division I program. Hailey Roberts won the award twice (2014, 2015) and Tatyana Tuialii-Umi won it in 2019.

She also received Western Athletic Conference recognition as the TicketSmarter WAC Offensive Player of the Week. Kersey now leads the WAC in kills this season with 190. It’s the second WAC Player of the Week award won by a Texan this season, joining Ana Costas who claimed Defensive Player of the Week honors on Feb. 10.

Kersey recorded 60 total kills over the last four matches averaging 4.00 kills per set, leading the team in both categories. She hit .378 and compiled a season-high 17 kills in the Texans’ sweep of Chicago State on Monday. She helped lead the Texans to a four-set victory over Big 12 opponent TCU, recording 16 kills and hitting a season-high .520 in the match and recorded the match point kill.

The Texans, winners of a season-best five straight matches and eight of the last nine, take on WAC opponent Dixie State on March 8 and 9 in the Wisdom Volleyball Gym. The Texans will also host Texas Tech on March 11.
