STEPHENVILLE – In just their second home match of the year and first against a Division I foe, Tarleton Women’s Tennis put on a dominant showing by sweeping South Dakota 4-0 Wednesday afternoon.

“Today’s match was the true definition of a team win,” said head coach Elianne Miron. “We came out with good energy and took care of business in doubles. We carried that momentum into singles and a great job of executing our game plan. We had fun today and are looking forward to our next time on the court.”

The doubles pairing of Mihaela Codreanu and Faustine Palatte improved to a perfect 3-0 mark with their third straight win in the No. 2 doubles flight. The duo earned the doubles clinch point after Celia Vaudiau and Elsa Boisson handled the No. 3 flight. Both doubles teams won with 6-2 scores.

Moving into singles, Martha Makantasi continued her WAC-best winning streak with her eighth consecutive singles victory. The second-longest WAC winning streak stood pat at six consecutive matches as Jemi Aguilar’s match went unfinished with the clinching victory.

Mihaela Codreanu earned her first win over a Division I opponent in the team’s top flight by beating Habiba Aly, who entered the match with a perfect 4-0 record. Codreanu put a blemish on Aly’s season record with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 1 flight. Palatte sealed the win with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 6 flight.

Tarleton will venture to Lubbock Sunday afternoon for a battle against Big XII foe Texas Tech at 3:30 p.m. It will be the Texans second Big XII match of the season after opening the season against TCU on Jan. 16.
