LAS CRUCES – The Texans fall to the Aggies of New Mexico State who claimed the outright regular season champion spot today as Tarleton fell in three sets.

The Texans fell short to the Aggies with 20-25, 17-25, and 20-25 set losses. Lauren Kersey and Hali’a Swartman-Hogan led the Texans tonight in kills with both of them recording eight with Swartman-Hogan tying two aggies in total attacks with 28.

In the opening set, the Aggies came out on top first before the Texans took the lead 4-3. The Aggies answered and led for the majority of the set with the Texans staying within five but fell in set one.

Set two started the same as set one with the Aggies striking first but they were able to take a bigger lead and maintained the lead the whole set. The Texans went on a 3-0 scoring run to get the set within two points but couldn’t outlast the Aggies.

The Texans couldn’t get set three to swing their way as they were overpowered by the Aggies 16 kills to 7 to take the match in a three-set sweep.

Kayla Brannon was the match leader tonight in assists with 23 and Brianna Rhodes, Lorin McNeil, Amber Strange and Brannon combined for eight blocks. Ana Costas led the Texans in digs with 15, followed by Matti Theurer and Brannon who added eight each.

The Texans are headed to Fort Worth next for their second matchup of the year against Big XII program TCU. The Texans beat the Horned Frogs 3-1 in the matchup earlier this season. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.
