Big innings lead Jackets to wins over Gatesville and Kennedale

Stephenville is making a habit of big innings, and it led to a pair of wins for the Yellow Jackets with victories against Kennedale and Gatesville. The victories improve the Jackets’ season record 9-7-1 and 2-1 in district play.

The Jackets exploded for eight runs as the order batted around in the fourth inning and senior Trace Morrison was a terror at the plate as he went 4-5 with three singles, a double and four RBI.

Stephenville had built a 6-0 lead through three innings before Gatesville rallied with five runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Bryson Dill has recorded 34 strikeouts in 23.1 innings of work.

Bryson Dill stayed steady on the mound despite the rally, and only two of the runs by the Hornets were earned. Stephenville’s right-hander allowed four hits over five innings and struck out six batters before giving way to Kelvin Ong.

The win improves Dill’s record to 4-1 on the year, and he has totaled 34 strikeouts in 23.1 innings of work.

Ong’s two innings of work kept the Hornets at bay as he allowed one hit and one punch-out.

Case Dunavant plows into second base.

The Jackets feasted on Gatesville’s pitching as Stephenville recorded 13 hits with Morrison leading the way with four raps, Lane West had three hits and two RBI, Case Dunavant and Luke Berry both had a pair of hits and two RBI. Kyle Styron had a pair of sacrifice flies for two RBI.

Another fifth-inning explosion led to Stephenville’s victory as the Jackets crossed the plate eight times and downed Kennedale 11-1 behind the pitching of Kason Seider.

Seider befuddled Kennedale batters allowing no runs and just one hit over four innings of work.

The Jackets pounded out plenty of extra-base hits, with Morrison nailing a triple and West and Corbin Poston smacking doubles.

Reece Elston and Morrison topped the Jacket batters with two hits each.

Grayson Traweek threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen issued a pair of strikeouts.
